Two new members appointed to Swissmedic Agency Council

12.12.2025

At its meeting on 12 December 2025, the Federal Council appointed Milena Folletti and Virginie De Biase to the Agency Council of Swissmedic, the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products. These appointments are part of the process of re-electing the entire Agency Council for the 2026–2029 period.

Virginie De Biase is the Cantonal Pharmacist of the Canton of Neuchâtel. She is also a member of the Cantonal Commission on Addictions, the Regional Medicines Inspectorate of Western Switzerland and the Committee of the Association of Cantonal Pharmacists. She will be the Cantons’ representative on the Swissmedic Agency Council. Milena Folletti is currently the Digital Transformation Delegate of the Canton of Ticino. She has extensive experience in communication, media and innovation, and will represent Italian-speaking Switzerland on the Agency Council.

Virginie De Biase and Milena Folletti will replace Giovan Maria Zanini and Olivier Guillod respectively with effect from 1 January 2026, the latter having achieved the maximum permitted period of office and being no longer eligible for re-election. The Federal Council re-elected the remaining members of the Agency Council – Lukas Bruhin (Chairman), Monika Rüegg Bless, Marie-Denise Schaller, Lukas Engelberger and Daniel Betticher – for the 2026–2029 period.

The seven-member Agency Council is responsible for Swissmedic’s strategic direction. It oversees the Management Board, which is responsible for operational management.
