Swissmedic has a new Executive Director – new leadership team complete

Raimund Bruhin took up his post as the new Executive Director of Swissmedic on 3 April 2018. The Federal Council had appointed him to succeed Jürg Schnetzer as the head of the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products on 15 November 2017. Since Stéphane Rossini succeeded Christine Beerli as Chair of the Agency Council in January 2018, the Agency’s new management team is now complete.

Raimund Bruhin is a Swiss Medical Association-accredited Specialist in Cardiac and thoracovascular Surgery. He worked for the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) from 2009 and was deputy surgeon general and head of medical services development, teaching and research from 2011. As surgeon general and head of medical services, he was acting overall head of the medical services business area from December 2016 to September 2017. Prior to this, he was a junior doctor and chief resident at various hospitals in Switzerland and abroad. He obtained an Executive Master of Public Administration from the University of Bern and has many years of leadership experience. 

Now that Raimund Bruhin has taken up his post, Swissmedic's new management team is complete. Stéphane Rossini succeeded Christine Beerli as Chair of the Agency Council on 1 January 2018 after Ms Beerli had been in the post for over ten years. Stéphane Rossini is a professor at the Universities of Geneva and Neuchâtel, and also works as an independent consultant. He was a member of the National Council for 16 years, and its president in 2015. As a former president of the Social Security and Health Committee of the National Council, he has extensive knowledge of the health portfolio.
