Multilateral co-operation with international organisations / initiatives

International co-operation in therapeutic products regulation is not just a bilateral process between individual authorities, but an increasingly multilateral process that takes place on a variety of platforms. Multilateral platforms for harmonising regulations may include international initiatives as well as private associations initiated and funded by several national therapeutic products agencies and international organisations such as the WHO or Council of Europe. Their subject areas cover the entire spectrum of therapeutic products regulation.

Swissmedic is actively involved in the commissions and working parties set up by these platforms where these are relevant to its work. The agency only becomes actively involved if there is a tangible benefit in fulfilling its statutory mission and mandate to ensure that the health of the Swiss population is safeguarded.
