On 12 January 2026, Vincenza Trivigno will take up her post as Executive Director of Swissmedic, succeeding Raimund Bruhin, who has led the Agency since 2018 and is retiring in February 2026.

An economist by training, 55-year-old Vincenza Trivigno has many years’ management experience in the public and private sectors, and possesses an extremely good knowledge of the Swiss healthcare industry. From 2021 to 2025, she was CEO of the VAMED Switzerland group (now VITREA Switzerland), which runs various rehabilitation clinics. Prior to this, she held various posts, including Chancellor of the Canton of Aargau, Secretary General of the Department of Public Health of the Canton of Zug, membership of the Group Executive Board of Stadler Rail and membership of the Executive Management of Interpharma. In addition, she was Vice Chair of the Swissmedic Agency Council from 2016 to 2021. She received undergraduate and postgraduate training at various institutions, including the Universities of Bern and St. Gallen, the London School of Economics and Harvard Law School.
Vincenza Trivigno is taking the reins at Swissmedic as it is going through a period of important strategic decisions. These include consolidating financial framework conditions, further developing digitalisation and strengthening international cooperation. She will also work with the Agency Council and Management Board to prepare the strategic objectives for 2027-2030 and submit them to the Federal Council for approval. Trivigno emphasises: “At a time of rapid technological progress and fierce competition between business locations, Swissmedic is highly significant in terms of health policy and the national economy. I am looking forward to working with Swissmedic’s employees, Management Board and Agency Council to tackle and overcome the challenges that lie ahead for the benefit of Switzerland and its population”.
The Federal Council appointed Vincenza Trivigno as Executive Director of the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products on 25 June 2025 at the request of the Agency Council. Originally from Olten, Vincenza Trivigno is a native speaker of Italian and German, and also speaks fluent French and English.
Swissmedic, the Swiss therapeutic products authority, is one of Switzerland’s economic and safety supervisory authorities and forms part of the decentralised federal administration. It is scientifically autonomous, politically neutral and manages its own accounts. Its core tasks, in accordance with the Federal Act on Medicinal Products and Medical Devices (Therapeutic Products Act), are the authorisation of medicinal products, market surveillance, the approval of clinical trials of therapeutic products and the issuing of establishment licences for the manufacture of, and wholesale trading in, medicinal products. It can also can impose administrative measures and initiate administrative proceedings for the purposes of enforcing therapeutic products legislation.
