The delimitation practice for classifying topical preparations for animals containing the active substance permethrin has been modified.
In collaboration with the assessment authorities for biocides (FOPH, FOEN, SECO and FSVO), it has been decided that these products shall in future come under the therapeutic products legislation in Switzerland, similarly to the modified interpretation in several EU countries, and they are therefore classified as veterinary medicinal products that are subject to authorisation.
This includes all pharmaceutical forms, i.e. permethrin-containing collars, ear tags and similar products that remain on the animal for longer periods.
